The central Pro Team of Olympic champion Sabine Spitz will take part in the premier edition of Aphrodite Trophy on march 21. Spitz also will take a training ride with hobby riders in the week before.
The mountainbike competition of the Aphrodite Trophy the former years was the Tochni-Kalavasos race. The course is slightly changed from the past years and made more suitable for hobby riders but it’s still a ride through an impressive landscape and still passes the Kalavasos dam. Further more the participants can join the Akapnou forest, full of nice coloured flowers that spread their nice scent in the air. The central Pro Team with world cup winner Elisabeth Osl (Aut) has already told to take part in the Aphrodite Trophy.
While Osl uses the final of Cyprus Sunshine Cup in Amathous to start her season, for her team leader and Olympic champion Sabine Spitz (Ger) the Tochni-Kalavasos race will be the first competition after her break due to two operations in her pelvis.Spitz will not only appear to race. She also will do a training ride with hobby riders during the training camp in Tochni of Skyder Sportpromotion the week before.Except the ride with Sabine Spitz the German agency and the local organizer of the Aphrodite Trophy will offer more rides with professional riders as well as a seminar how to use a Garmin gps device. On the other hand they get also an insight view on Cyprus culture when they where shown how the famous Cyprus chees Halloumi is made.„Besides the beautiful nature and the attractive mountainbike trails on Cyprus in this way I think we are offering an interesting week in Tochni“, the organizer of Aphrodite Trophy, Mike Hadjoannou says.
Mountain Run around Tochni
This includes also a Running competition on March 20. The Mountain run passes through the narrow roads and the surrounding area of Tochni village. The course starts just a few meters far from the Tochni
village old church, continues in the tiny stone paved roads of the old village, then passes again in front of the church to start the climb just on the opposite side of the start line, on a small hill. After a climb of 400
meters the road enters the forest around Tochni and passing next to the fields heads to St. George chappel just 1 km outside the village. From this point the mountain run course follows the road to directly back to the village of Tochni. The length is 6,2 kilometers.
